Bolthouse Farms Debuts New Protein-Drink Line

Packages use 25% less plastic than company’s previous products

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Bolthouse Farms is adding a new protein drink line with added attention to packaging sustainability.

The company’s 1915 Organic juice brand has introduced plant-based beverages made with pea protein and added two new cold-pressed juices to its existing portfolio. The launch aligns with recent trends as sales of plant-based foods have grown more than 8% in the past year, according to the Plant Based Foods Association and The Good Food Institute.

The new products are packaged in sustainable and environmentally-friendly bottles that use nearly 25% less plastic than its other beverages.

The protein drinks come in three flavors: vanilla, chocolate and coffee. They aim to meet consumer demand for more protein, less sugar and fewer calories, the company said.

The new cold-pressed flavors—watermelon and cucumber—contain 12 grams of protein, 9 grams of sugar and a maximum of 160 calories. They’re also soy-free, USDA-certified organic, vegan and non-GMO certified. The drinks come in 12-ounce bottles and have an SRP of $3.99.

"More people are making better-for-you, sustainable food choices," said Todd Putman, general manager of Campbell Soup Co.’s C-Fresh division, which owns the Bolthouse Farms brand. "Our new 1915 Organic beverages were created in response to consumers' growing demand for accessible, great-tasting, plant-based nutrition that balances protein and sugar."

Bakersfield, Calif.-based Bolthouse Farms produces and sells premium juices, smoothies, protein shakes and cafe beverages and is a market share leader in growing and distributing carrots. The company, originally founded in 1915, was acquired by Campbell Soup in August 2012.
