Carl's Adds Vitaminwater

Three flavors of packaged beverage now in QSRs

CARPINTERIA, Calif. -- CKE Restaurants Inc. announced it is offering vitaminwater at all of its 1,212 Carl's Jr. locations. Carl's Jr. will feature three flavors of the nutrient-enhanced water: vitaminwater xxx, vitaminwater revive and vitaminwater essential.

CKE Restaurants has a long-standing partnership with The Coca-Cola Co., which owns vitaminwater. Coca-Cola products have been served in Carl's Jr. since 1981. Vitaminwater will be available at most Carl's Jr. restaurants in 16-ounce bottles priced at $1.69. Prices may vary slightly at other locations.

"Carl's [image-nocss] Jr. has long been known for our innovative menu offerings," said Brad Haley, executive vice president of marketing for Carl's Jr. "Once again we are leading the industry by offering our guests a great-tasting vitaminwater to go along with their favorite big, delicious burger. As the saying goes, vitaminwater puts more go in 'to go.' "

Both Carl's Jr. and vitaminwater are featured in a humorous digital video celebrating the new relationship on their respective Facebook pages, www.facebook.com/carlsjr and www.facebook.com/vitaminwater. The video, a spoof of oldies music compilation CDs usually advertised on television, features Carl's Jr. mascot Happy Star and a bottle of vitaminwater enjoying their new "relationship" while listening to love songs such as "Truly, Madly, Beefy" and "Drink Me Up."

Based in Carpinteria, Calif., CKE Restaurants Inc. is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. As of the end of its fiscal 2010 second quarter, CKE Restaurants Inc., through its subsidiaries, had a total of 3,140 franchised, licensed or company-operated restaurants in 42 states and in 14 countries, including 1,212 Carl's Jr. restaurants and 1,915 Hardee's restaurants.
