Grinnell Named VP of Brewing at Boston Beer

Founder's "right-hand" man

BOSTON -- David Grinnell, longtime director of brewing and quality at The Boston Beer Co., has been promoted to vice president of brewing.

Grinnell joined founder and brewer Jim Koch in 1988, three years after the first case of Samuel Adams Boston Lager rolled out of the brewery, and he has been Koch's "right hand" ever since, the company said.

In addition to overseeing the brewing, leading the brewing team, and developing new recipes, David travels the world researching and sourcing ingredients, including the brewery's signature [image-nocss] Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops.

"For a brewer at Sam Adams, one of the best parts of a day at the brewery is Taste Panel, where we sit down and taste beers," Koch said. "Some days, we will taste new recipes we are developing; other days it will be batches of existing beers. David has an incredible palate and impressive brewing creativity, which helps us develop new, wonderful styles of beer for our drinkers year after year."

The company currently brews more than 21 styles of beer.
