Kum & Go to Add Protein2o

Protein-enhanced water to be available on retailer's shelves in January

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Beginning in January, most Kum & Go convenience stores will begin carrying Protein2o Inc.'s line of protein-enhanced waters, the beverage company said.

The rollout will include Protein2o's Berry, Lemon, Grape and the newest Wild Cherry in 16.9-oz. bottles for a suggested retail price of $2.29 each or two for $4.

Bob Kral, president and CEO of Chicago-based Protein2o, said the collaboration is a perfect fit. "Our partnership with Kum & Go is a testament to their commitment to providing their customers with healthier functional beverage options," he said. "They understand the growing importance of protein as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. Consumers are more committed than ever to making healthier choices; we believe Protein2o is a natural extension to this commitment."

In early August, Protein2o announced that it had closed a $6 million capital deal led by CK Capital LLC--a capital management firm specializing in actively managed investments.

"Our preparation, including our capital plan, is allowing us to deliver on every aspect of the business as we tap into the latent consumer demand Protein2o is satisfying," Kal said at the time. "As a former retail executive, I know how important execution and service levels are as we have to win across all levels of the value chain from the consumer to the retailer and beyond."

Protein2o is a line of naturally flavored, low-calorie waters enhanced with 15g of protein and electrolytes. With only 70 calories, Protein2o is among the lowest-calorie ready-to-drink (RTD) protein beverages available, and it is designed for anyone wanting to lose weight, improve their physique, stay energized or live a healthy lifestyle, the company said.

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go has more than 430 convenience stores in 11 states (Iowa, Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming).
