McDonald's to Bring McCafe to the Cold Vault

RTD launch to accompany brand refresh

OAK BROOK, Ill. -- McDonald's in the cold vault? Yep, it's happening.

Six months after Dunkin' Donuts rolled out its line of bottled iced-coffee beverages, burger giant McDonald's is relaunching its McCafe with "a new look, new cafe-quality espresso beverages and expanded retail offerings" that include three packaged frappe drinks.

"This is just the start of our McCafe commitment," said Chris Kempczinski, president, McDonald's USA. "We understand how important the coffee culture is for consumers, and we are committed to meeting that demand at the taste, convenience and value only McDonald's can offer. This is a central part of our growth strategy and we can't wait to share what's next."

McDonald's is partnering with the Coca-Cola Co. to introduce the line of ready-to-drink (RTD) McCafe Frappe beverages in three flavors: Caramel, Vanilla and Mocha. The bottled drinks will be available nationally beginning in early 2018. Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Co. also markets Dunkin' Donuts' packaged Iced Coffee, which launched in February.

The McCafe refresh will also include a new brand logo and packaging that will evolve with the seasons, the company said.

There are more than 14,000 McDonald's restaurants in the United States. McDonald's is based in Oak Brook, Ill.
