Mountain Dew Ice Debuts
By Steve Holtz on Jan. 19, 2018CHICAGO -- PepsiCo launched its new Mountain Dew Ice soda this month, after unveiling it at the 2017 NACS Show in October.
Here's a look at the new-product launch and four other carbonated soft drinks (CSDs) we're watching ...
1. Mountain Dew Ice
Mountain Dew Ice "is a marquee addition to the PepsiCo portfolio," the Purchase, N.Y.-based company said. The line extension is "a crisp, clear, carbonated soft drink made with a splash of real juice ... the answer for those looking for a thirst-quenching lemon-lime flavored beverage to keep them invigorated throughout the day."
The drink launched Jan. 15 in 20-ounce bottles, 2-liter bottles, 12-packs of 12-ounce cans and a variety of other single and multipack sizes, with 100 calories per 12 ounces.
2. Dry Zero Sugar
Dry Soda Co., Seattle, in December launched the company’s second sparkling beverage brand: Dry Zero Sugar Sodas, a line of sugar-free, USDA organic and non-GMO Project Verified sodas. The new line is available in four flavors, including Cola, Peach Tea, Mountain Berry and Island Fruit.
Dry Zero Sugar organic sodas are sold in six-packs of 12-ounce cans, with a suggested retail price of $5.99 to $6.99.
3. Afri cola
Germany's afri cola has returned to the United States after a 15-year absence. It is the “original premium high-caffeine cola,” according to importer Classic Beverage Imports, Napa, Calif. Afri cola has been around since the 1930s, the company said, and was available in the U.S. in the late 1990s until the early 2000s, when the parent company exited the export business. The drink is now available in more than 1,000 grocery and convenience stores in the United States, the company said.
4. Bottoms Up Ginger Beer
Marketer The Ginger People has rebranded its ginger beer as Bottoms Up. Bottled in California through a strategic partnership between The Ginger People and Gordon Biersch Brewing Co., Bottoms Up targets ginger-beer purists, the company said. The rebranded drink is available to stores nationwide and has an SRP of $8.35 for a case of four 12-ounce bottles.
5. Brooklyn Crafted Ginger Beer
Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Brooklyn Crafted has launched its Brooklyn Crafted Ginger Beer in mini bottles to complement its 12-ounce line. The 7-ounce bottles are available in four flavors: Traditional, Earl Grey, Mango, and Lemon and Lime.
