New Brew Thru Drive Thru

N.C. retailer opening franchise locations

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. -- A new Brew Thru drive-thru convenience store opened May 1 in Carolina Beach, N.C., according to a report by The Wilmington Star-News. A grand opening celebration has been planned for June 6-7. Customers can get a free beverage koozie when they by a t-shirt.

Beer is the staple of Brew Thru's inventory, said the report, but it also offers wine, nonalcoholic beverages including milk by the half-gallon, cigarettes, cigars, candy, snacks, over-the-counter medicine, suntan lotion, surfboard wax and a variety of Brew Thru merchandise such as t-shirts, [image-nocss] hats and other collectibles. Kegs are available in various brands.

The retailer offers its own beer, Big D's Brew, in a summer ale or lager, the report added.

"Cartenders," the retailer's "goodwill ambassadors," serve customers as they drive through the store.

On its website, Wanchese, N.C.-based Brew Thru Inc. calls itself "the Outer Banks original Drive-Thru Convenience store since 1977." Brew Thru's have become an Outer Banks tradition over the last 32 years, the company said, selling more than three million t-shirts. It offers a new t-shirt design each year.

There a five corporate-owned Brew Thru stores, located from Corolla to Nags Head, as well as this new franchised location in Carolina Beach. All are in North Carolina. Coming in the spring of 2010, the first Brew Thru outside of North Carolina will open in Panama City, Fla, the company said on its website.

The company is actively seeking franchisees, it said.
