Teas for $2

BP's ampm brews ready-to-drink tea promotion

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- BP's ampm convenience store division has announced a "two for $2" promotion for its Essence ready-to-drink tea line in the company's western U. S. markets. Through the end of June, customers can experience a duo of the four new brews for $2.

The Essence teas, which are slated to launch in eastern U. S. marketing areas in September, are the latest in a line of exclusive ampm beverages launched over the past two years. BP's ampm also sells four other proprietary bottled beverages: Deluge Spring Water, Deluge Sport drinks, Unbound energy drinks and Deluge [image-nocss] Plus vitamin+antioxidant waters.

"The Essence teas are a natural progression in the evolution of drinks exclusive to ampm," said Andrew Baird, BP's vice president of marketing for convenience retail. "Ready-to-drink tea sales were among the fastest growing sub-categories of packaged beverages in our stores. In addition, our fountain sales of the Essence green tea were strong, indicating a market ripe for a beverage with natural, premium ingredients."

Essence teas come in four flavors: green tea with ginseng and honey, white tea with lemon, black tea with peach and black tea with raspberry. The all-natural teas are steeped with green, white or black tea leaves in the production process to ensure a natural flavor from the tea solids and sweetened with cane sugar, not high-fructose corn syrup, resulting in a beverage that is less than 100 calories per serving. In addition, the green and white teas contain vitamin C and EGCG, a natural antioxidant.

During June, consumers can purchase two bottles of Essence tea for $2 at participating ampm locations. A single 20-oz. bottle carries a suggested retail price of $1.49.

The ampm brand was founded in 1978 in Southern California by Atlantic Richfield (ARCO), which was acquired by BP in 2000. With more stores arriving every week in the Midwestern and southeastern United States, ARCO-branded ampm stores are currently found in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Arizona; BP-branded ampm stores are located in Chicago, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Orlando, Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Atlanta.

BP supplies more than 15 billion gallons of gasoline every year to U.S. consumers through 12,000 retail outlets. BP is the single, global brand formed by the combination of the former British Petroleum, Amoco, ARCO, ARAL and Burmah Castrol.
