Wilson Farms Lands Shark

Retailer offering energy drink from Thailand

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Wilson Farms convenience stores have begun carrying Shark USA's 8.4-oz. Shark Energy Drink, distributed through West Seneca, N.Y.-based Certo Brothers, said The Buffalo News.

Paul Nanula, Buffalo, N.Y.-based Wilson Farms' CEO, said it was too early to tell how the product is being received. But he said he felt it represented something different in the energy drink market. "We think they have a nice niche opportunity," he told the newspaper.

Moe Boukadida struck a deal to be the U.S. distributor for Shark and has set up its corporate offices, under the name Shark [image-nocss] USA, Buffalo. Shark is produced in Thailand and is owned by a conglomerate called Osotspa Co. Ltd., based in Japan, said the report.

Boukadida said he has been president of Fortuna Enterprises, a liquidation company, in Buffalo for about six years. The North Africa native said he was overseas on a business trip about a year and a half ago when he came across Shark. "I'd never seen it in the U.S.," he told the paper.

Shark—which the company's website said is based on Thai and Chinese medicine—is sugar free and contains taurine, glucoronolactone, caffeine and B viatamins.

Boukadida said he hopes to have the product sold in Tops Markets, Wegmans and other local retail outlets.
