7-Eleven Rolls Out New Oreo Mint Lineup

Retailer partners with Nabisco on limited-edition snacks and beverages

IRVING, Texas -- 7-Eleven Inc. is teaming up with Nabisco to launch a limited-time mint-flavored product lineup, anchored by an Oreo Mint Hot Chocolate beverage. The limited-edition flavor will be exclusive to 7-Eleven convenience stores.

The Oreo Mint cookie variety is the most popular flavored cookie in Nabisco’s Oreo product line; only the Original Oreo sells more. 7-Eleven is banking on the popularity of the Oreo brand, as well as an emerging demand for mint as a seasonal flavor, to drive interest in the new limited time offers (LTOs).

“Our customer research indicated that mint chocolate was a wanted winter flavor,” said Shawn Barnes, senior category manager for 7-Eleven. “We worked with our supplier to make sure we were the only ones to have one of the most recognized brands in our mint hot chocolate.”

In addition to Oreo Mint appearing on 7-Eleven’s hot beverage bar, the promotion will also include Oreo Mint Creme cookies and a Milka Oreo Mint chocolate candy bar.

7-Eleven has also created a chocolate cake doughnut made with Oreo cookie pieces topped with vanilla cream icing—similar to Oreo cookies’ filling—and sprinkled with crumbled Oreo cookies.

This is the second time 7-Eleven has carried an exclusive Oreo-flavored hot chocolate. In 2015, 7-Eleven stores introduced an Original Oreo Hot Chocolate drink and carried the product for six months. It was the retailer’s most frequently ordered LTO of the year.

“Oreo and mint is a favorite combination for many of our fans, so we are very excited to bring this Oreo Mint Hot Chocolate to life with 7-Eleven,” said Maddie Vincent, brand manager for Oreo Cookies.

Hot chocolate beverages, along with cappuccino, make up about a third of hot beverage sales for 7-Eleven.

Based in Irving, Texas, 7-Eleven is the world’s largest convenience-store chain, ranking No. 1 on CSP’s 2017 Top 202 list of the largest convenience-store chains in the United States.
