Big Bad Bacon Chicken' Takes Bayonne

Sandwich that won Quick Chek's Sub Showdown gets added to menu

BAYONNE, N.J. -- Alan Kahn took first place in the Sub Showdown hosted by convenience store chain Quick Chek at its store in Bayonne, N.J., said The Jersey Journal. The winning sub creation was "The Big Bad Bacon Chicken," a "strange, yet mouth-watering combination of cheese, sauteed mushrooms, bacon, honey mustard and...grilled chicken," according to the report.

Jennifer Vespole, a senior category manager for foodservice at Quick Chek and one of the four judges of the contest, said, "It was an amazing combination of ingredients and texture."

The 22-year-old [image-nocss] from Old Bridge, N.J., a marketing intern and part-time film extra, was rewarded for his efforts with $1,500 in Quick Chek gift cards. Kahn's winning combination will soon be added to the c-store's menu of sub sandwiches, the newspaper said.

Three runners up, Michael Caballero of Piscataway, N.J. ("Pigs in a Blanket"), Joseph Cristiano of Suffern, N.Y. ("Mozzarella Mania"), and Katy Ells of Ewing, N.J. ("The Mouser"), each won $125 in gift cards to the store.

The four contestants' subs were selected out of more than 4,100 submitted on www.ILoveMySub.com and were chosen for their popularity on the site to come to Bayonne for the store's first-ever sub recipe battle.

Bayonne resident Kim Cuebas was also honored at the store's event as Quick Chek's biggest Facebook fan, said the report. Cuebas served as a judge and was also given a $125 gift card to support her caffeine habit.

"I love the coffee every morning and again at night," she said.
