BP's ampm Serves Up Emergen-C Splash

Retailer is exclusive distributor of new fountain beverage
CHICAGO -- BP's ampm convenience stores have added Emergen-C Splash, a fountain beverage that provides vitamins and other nutrients. It introduced Emergen-C Splash to give consumers a healthier alternative to fountain beverages such as soda. The chain is the exclusive c-store distributor for the orange-tangerine flavor of Emergen-C Splash from September 1 through November 30.

Each 16-oz. serving of caffeine-free, low-calorie Emergen-C Splash offers vitamins B, C and D, as well as antioxidants and electrolytes.

According to Bill Fry, president of ampm franchise, Emergen-C [image-nocss] Splash gives ampm another way to reach mobile consumers. "When consumers are thirsty, they want liquid refreshment fast," he said. "Emergen-C Splash is a tasty, low-calorie way for them to rehydrate. It's also a chance for us to reach parents who are on the go and want to make healthier choices for their kids."

Emergen-C Splash joins Deluge Plus Pomegranate flavored water, another low-calorie ampm fountain drink. Deluge Plus Pomegranate, which has only 30 calories per 16-oz. serving, contains antioxidants as well as vitamins A, B and E.

C-store shoppers can find the drink by visiting the Thirst Oasis fountain at ampm stores nationwide. "The Thirst Oasis at ampm already allows consumers to pick from more than 20 flavor options," Fry added. "Now they have another choice."

Based in Foothill Ranch, Calif., Alacer develops, manufactures and markets dietary supplements and nutritionally enhanced products. It produces almost 500 million packets annually of Emergen-C effervescent vitamin drink mix, which is sold in health food stores, c-stores, supermarkets, drug stores, mass merchandisers and club stores nationwide.

The ampm brand was founded in 1978 in Southern California by ARCO. The brand became part of BP when BP acquired ARCO in 2000. ARCO-branded ampm stores are currently found in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Arizona; BP-branded ampm stores are located in Chicago, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Orlando, Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Atlanta. BP supplies more than 15 billion gallons of gasoline every year to U.S. consumers through 11,000 retail outlets. BP is the single, global brand formed by the combination of the former British Petroleum, Amoco, Atlantic Richfield (ARCO), ARAL and Burmah Castrol.
