Chef Point Cafe Goes on the Road

Conoco station/restaurant on trend with food truck
WATAUGA, Texas -- Chef Point Cafe is going on the road. The restaurant, located in the Conoco station/convenience store in the Fort Worth, Texas, suburb of Watauga, especially known for its chicken, is now offering its menu via Chef Point Cafe on Wheels, a mobile restaurant.

Franson and Paula Nwaeze's began serving their menu for Chef Point Cafe on Wheels on June 16. The Gordon Boswell Flowers parking lot across the street from Harris Hospital will be its permanent midday Wednesday home.

The Chef Point Cafe On Wheels is equipped with a complete industrial kitchen. It can "wheel" to any get-togetherreunions, neighborhood parties, sporting events or any occasion that brings people together. With the average cost per person ranging from $18 to $30, the minimum charge is $1,000 per event. The price varies based on the type of food, quantity of food and the level of service requested.

The husband-and-wife team started making plans to open a restaurant in 2001, but most banks were hesitant to lend them start-up capital due to their lack of collateral and experience. They discovered they would much more likely get financing if they opened a gas station. When they found a station under construction that was for sale, they jumped at the opportunity.

Adding a full kitchen to the plans, they opened for business in 2003. Chef Nwaeze's cuisine quickly developed a loyal following and most of the c-store was transformed into the current restaurant.

The restaurant was recently featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives.

Food trucks were among the trends featured at this year's National Restaurant Association (NRA) Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show in May. In response to the growing popularity of mobile food options, a special "Food Truck Spot" on the show floor was dedicated to the equipment needed to launch or expand a food-truck business.
