Eby-Brown Launching Wakefield Sandwich Co.

Offering "fresh, never frozen" sandwiches, more

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Eby-Brown, a leading consumer products distributor, is launching Wakefield Sandwich Co., home of the fresh, never frozen sandwich, a significant investment in fresh foods by a c-store distributor.

Wakefield includes a five-star chef, food safety and quality control manager and a team of nearly 100 commissary workers.

Rich Haen, senior vice president of NewFreshCo Foods LLC/Wakefield Sandwich Co., said, With the industry's recent shift to 'fresh,' we wanted to offer a full-service program that is easy for [image-nocss] retailers to implement in their stores. We will provide signage, training and great-tasting sandwiches. We are taking the guesswork out of fresh foods.

Product offerings on Wakefield's menu include the fresh, never frozen subs, Wide-Awakes Breakfast Sandwiches and hand-wrapped hot sandwiches. The program includes other fresh solutions such as salads, fruits and veggies and all-natural juices.

Wakefield Sandwich plans on rolling out its program to a limited customer base in early 2008.

A privately held company, Eby-Brown, with headquarters in Naperville, Illinois, is one of the largest distributors in the United States, providing consumer goods and other products to retailers in the convenience channel of trade.
