Gate C-Stores Lands Beaver Street Seafood

Will pilot sale of Sea Best brand dinners in three locations

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- In a partnership between Gate Petroleum Co. and Beaver Street Fisheries Inc., Gate gas stations will carry Sea Best brand frozen single-serve seafood dinners in their convenience stores. The Signature Singles "Gourmet on the Go" will be available in a pilot test at three locations, reported The Jacksonville Business Journal.

The meals will come in five varieties, including citrus scallops and linguini, stuffed clams, black bean and shrimp tacos, tilapia florentine and spinach and artichoke flounder.

Roger Denmark, research and development manager for Sea Best, said the products are geared toward young, healthy-minded people on the go. "You wouldn't think of seafood items in a convenience store like Gate," he told the newspaper. "But you see more and more pickup meals in vending machines. And especially in the younger generation, they're more health conscious than the generation before."

The meals should fit in with Gate's customer base, Gate president John Peyton said in a statement provided to the paper. "Sea Best is known for its quality and convenience, which was a perfect match for our stores," he said.

"Our sales generate their sales," said Denmark. "We want [customer] visits frequent, for lunch and dinner, because that's sales revenue for Beaver Street and Gate as well. We want customers to come into a store twice a day."

If the meals are successful, they could expand to other Gate stores, and perhaps to other convenience marts.

"We'll stay with [convenience] store application to start," he said, "and see what kind of foot traffic it generates. We could potentially see that elsewhere."
