‘Hey Burger King, It’s Time to Compare Wieners’

Checkers, Rally’s ignites ‘wiener war’

TAMPA, Fla. -- Following 7-Eleven's lead, Checkers & Rally's is challenging Burger King’s hot dog launch. The dual-branded quick-service restaurant (QSR) company took out an ad in USA Today saying, “Hey Burger King, It’s Time to Compare Wieners.”

Burger King

The social media hashtag is #wienersmackdown.

Miami-based Burger King is offering its hot dogs for $1.99. Checkers & Rally's is now offering its hot dogs for 79 cents “to remind the world that Checkers & Rally's has been cooking up hand-grilled hot dogs made with 100% beef for more than 30 years.”

“When Burger King made their announcement, we laughed,” said Terri Snyder, chief marketing officer of Checkers & Rally's. “We're engaged in a fun, aggressive and provocative wiener war with Burger King. And it's a war we plan to win! You can get one of our great dogs for less than half the price of theirs.”

Convenience-store retailer 7-Eleven Inc., Irving, Texas, used Burger King’s recent announcement that it will start selling hot dogs as an opportunity to issue the “Hot Dog Bill of Rights” and to promote the fact that it has always sold hot dogs.

The c-store retailer is encouraging fans to join the conversation online using #hotdogdemocracy to tell how they top their Big Bite hot dogs.

Based in Tampa, Fla., Checkers & Rally's Restaurants Inc., a drive-thru restaurant chain, has more than 800 restaurants.
