Stewart's, Sheetz offer free New Year's coffee

SARATOGA SPRINGS,N.Y. -- A holiday that is all but built upon the goal of excessive drinking can be seen as either a reason to shelter oneself in the house or an opportunity. At least two well-known c-store retailers are choosing the second option as another year slips by later this week.

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based Stewart's Shops will continue its annual tradition of giving away free coffee on New Year's Eve, as will Sheetz stores.

From 6 p.m. until close Dec. 31, all 322 Stewart's Shops will provide their customers [image-nocss] with a cup of free coffee.

Our free coffee promotion on New Year's is another way we at Stewart's give back to our customers, said Stewart's president, Gary Dake. Whether it is free coffee or the free cone giveaways we do several times a year, we know how important it is to treat our customers right.

Companywide, Stewart's sells an average of over 800,000 cups of coffee per week.

For Sheetz Inc., Altoona, Pa., the free coffee give-away began yesterday, Christmas Day, and will continue on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Customers who stop at any of the 329 Sheetz locations will be able to get any size cup of premium 100% Arabica bean coffee for free. The special runs for 24 hours beginning at 4 p.m. December 31 through 4 p.m. January 1.

Sheetz has had a long tradition of giving away coffee on Christmas and New Year's Day as a gesture of appreciation to its customers during one of the busiest times of year. "We are grateful for our loyal customers, and it has been a long time tradition at Sheetz to offer free coffee to our customers on Christmas and New Year's Day, said Louie Sheetz, executive vice president, marketing. "It's our way of saying thank you and helping to brighten their travels with a fresh cup of hot coffee to get them going on their way."
