Kangaroo Express' 'Roo' Announces Mayoral Bids

"Campaign" promises free coffee, fresh food

CARY, N.C. -- The voice of Kangaroo Express convenience stores, known as The Roo, announced his write-in candidacy for mayor of Charleston, S.C., and Charlotte, N.C., yesterday. "We believe every man, woman and child deserves to make a break in their day," said The Roo. "The people have spoken and you want change. You want hot, fresh coffee, you want mouthwatering donuts and you do not want to go broke enjoying them."

There are 61 Kangaroo Express c-stores in the Charleston market and 75 stores in the Charlotte market that have been recently revamped to bring the "Fresh Initiative" to guests including new Bean Street coffee and fresh food and bakery options in a fast, friendly and clean store environment.

To support The Roo movement, the company is urging people to visit www.voteforroo.com and text VOTE to 67777 to join the Roo Club and benefit from the first of The Roo's campaign promises--a free cup of coffee on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8. Supporters who vote will also receive deals including 49-cent Coffee Wednesdays and Free Coffee Fridays.

The Roo also promises: "Piping-hot Bean Street Coffee that you can customize with a wide assortment of flavorings--without having to order it in a fancy language; doughnuts that are always fresh; hot dogs--all-beef, all-natural Ballpark franks; and a drink for just a $1.50."

John Fisher, senior vice president of marketing at The Pantry and "campaign advisor" for The Roo, said, "We believe in everyone who walks through our doors, the hardworking Americans who grind it out, day after day. At Kangaroo Express, we want you to fill your cup high, load your hot dog with extra chili, walk a little taller on the way to your car and show today who's boss--it's time to Get Right at the Roo."

Headquartered in Cary, N.C., The Pantry is a leading independently operated convenience store chain in the southeastern United States and one of the largest independently operated c-store chains in the country. As of August 8, 2011, the company operated 1,655 stores in 13 states under select banners, including Kangaroo Express, its primary operating banner.
