Kwik Trip Picks Marshfield

Retailer brings in clinic for food safety testing

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Kwik Trip Inc., which owns and operates 330 convenience stores under the Kwik Trip and Kwik Star banner in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa, has hired Marshfield Food Safety LLC to provide food safety testing services for the Kwik Trip stores.

The Kwik Trip "campus" includes a full-service bakery operation, a dairy plant using the Nature's Touch brand name, a state-of- the art commissary (added in 2007), a fully automated ice plant (added in 2008) and a new water plant that will be completed later this year.

The retailer's operational facilities enhance the benefits [image-nocss] of vertical-integration and are designed to improve control over the production, warehousing and distribution of Kwik Trip-branded products throughout the chain.

"Marshfield Clinic's lab was chosen to help us conduct food safety testing for Kwik Trip because of their experience in the food safety industry," said Don Zietlow, president of Kwik Trip stores. "They understand the kind of testing that needs to be done to detect food borne illnesses that would affect the quality of our food at Kwik Trip. Our partnership with Marshfield Clinic shows our commitment to food safety, and is one more way we are taking care of our customers."

Evansville, Ind.-based Marshfield Food Safety is owned and operated by a human health care facility, Marshfield Clinic. This integration and collaboration creates opportunity to quicker discovery of human health related issues and helps to improve public health, it said.

"Kwik Trip has built a brand around cleanliness and value, and we are proud to be a subsidiary to their leadership team which helps to enforce those efforts," said Robert Carlson, M.D., director of Marshfield Clinic Applied Sciences, home to the Clinic's Food Safety services. "Their voluntary emphasis on food safety speaks volumes about how highly they regard the quality of their products, and health and safety of their customers."
