LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Kwik Trip Inc. has raised $65,000 in support of the Partnership for Healthier America’s (PHA) mission to help solve the nation’s childhood obesity crisis.
To raise the funds, the La Crosse, Wis.-based convenience-store retailer set out coin canisters at the checkout lanes of its 491 locations in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. This campaign has raised $180,000 since 2014, the year Kwik Trip teamed up with PHA.
“We are grateful for the generosity of our co-workers and guests in support of our continued mission to provide healthier food options and make a positive difference in the lives of the people and communities we are fortunate to serve,” said Dave Ring, community relations manager for Kwik Trip.
Kwik Trip has taken on a number of advancements to make healthier choices more convenient and accessible through its EatSmart program, as well as becoming the first convenience store to offer a PHA-approved combo meal.
As part of its new commitment to PHA, Kwik Trip will offer by June 2017 an expanded stock of healthier options, including healthier packaged foods such as nuts and granola bars, and more healthier options in the checkout area.
“Consumer demand for healthier food is on the rise. This campaign—and Kwik Trip's commitment to meeting their customers growing needs—is affirmation that the healthy choice can be the easy choice for busy parents and families,” said PHA CEO Lawrence Soler.
Other convenience-store retailers to partner with PHA include enmarket, Sheetz, Twice Daily, U-Gas and Vintners Distributors Inc.

PHA was created in conjunction with, but independent from, first lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! effort. PHA is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that is led by some of the nation’s most respected health and childhood obesity experts. It brings together public, private and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. PHA ensures that partners keep their commitments by working with unbiased third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress they are making.
La Crosse, Wis.-based Kwik Trip owns and operates 491 Kwik Trip and Kwik Star convenience stores, as well as Hearty Platter Restaurants and Tobacco Outlet Plus stores, in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.
