NORFOLK, Va. -- Some 60 Miller's Neighborhood Markets managers, assistant managers and deli managers have completed the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation's ServSafe food safety program.
The Norfolk, Va.-based company, a division of Miller Oil Co., invested almost $10,000 in the training.
As we now focus more on food service and quality food products for our customers, the need for employees to understand the importance of proper food safety takes on a new urgency, said vice president of operations Wanda Sheffield. [image-nocss] It was worth the money we invested. There are so many risks out there. You have to understand what the rules of food are.
Participation in the program is voluntary, and not a mandatory requirement from local, state or federal health officials.
The extensive program helps provide the restaurant and foodservice industry with an up-to-date, comprehensive food safety training and certification program.
Miller's commitment to food safety is ongoing. Sheffield noted the company's director of training has been become a certified ServSafe trainer, able to educate new employees as they come on board. We have taken the right steps in protecting our customers, she said.
