Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes Turns 30

Celebration included Pontiac Turbo-Trans Am Indy 500 pace car giveaway

VERNON, N.Y. -- Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes, a leading convenience store chain in Upstate New York, recently celebrated its 30th anniversary at Utica-Rome Speedway with bands, a kids' zone, a classic car and bike show, food and more. It also awarded a grand prize of a 1980 Pontiac Turbo-Trans Am Indy 500 Pace Car to John Groat of Syracuse, N.Y.

Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes operates more than 80 stores throughout the state of New York and was founded on April 1, 1980. Executive offices are located in Canastota, N.Y.

Groat's name was drawn from more than 75 finalists [image-nocss] that attended the celebration. He registered for the Indy Pace Car at the Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppe in Dewitt, N.Y. The grand prize drawing was part of Nice N Easy's 30th Anniversary Promotion, which began in May. Customers registered to win at all stores throughout the chain, and then finalists for the grand prize were drawn monthly from each store.

Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes' staff held 14 anniversary parties at various stores from May through August to reward their customers for their past 30 years of business. Live radio remotes, delicious food sampling, giveaways, clowns, Elmo as well as anniversary cake was offered at the parties.

At the celebration on August 21, the culmination of the anniversary parties, the Vernon Fire Department sponsored the food concession area. Live entertainment was provided by The Honeybush Brothers, Emerald City, SourMash and The Custom Taylor Band. More than 140 cars, trucks and motorcycles participated in the Classic Car & Bike Show.

According to John MacDougall, Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes' president and CEO, "It was a great day and one that many will remember for years to come. I am glad we were able to celebrate with our customers and thank them for their 30 years of business."

Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes' 30th Anniversary was made possible by the participation of a number of loyal vendors and suppliers, including major sponsors AmeriCU Credit Union, Crowley Foods, Deli-Boy, Finkle Distributors, Image Press, Pepsi-Cola, and Dr. Pepper Snapple Group.

"We couldn't have put together a promotion of this magnitude without the support of our great suppliers and vendors," said MacDougall. "On behalf of Nice N Easy, I'd like to thank all of our sponsors, staff and great customers for making our 30th Anniversary Celebration such a memorable event."

According to Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes' project manager Ann Ammann, "Our 30th Celebration was a big event that took a lot of work and planning but it was a dream come true to see everything go off without a hitch and have so many customers have such a great time. We are still receiving thank you notes from our customers."
