WAWA, Pa. – Most pro athletes happily proclaim that they’re going to Disney World after a big win, but it looks as if Olympic gold-medal-winning gymnast Laurie Hernandez is on her way to Wawa.
Following the dominating performance of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team earlier this week, Hernandez’s brother, Marcus Hernandez, posted a selfie his sister took with her gold medal, along with a message ending, “As soon as you land we’re going straight to Wawa.”
This isn’t the first time that the 16-year-old Olympic phenom – or her brother -- have sung Wawa’s praises on social media; the siblings have both Instagrammed photos of Wawa’s signature hoagies and beverages in the past.
No word yet on which Wawa location the New Jersey native will visit once she’s back stateside, but Wawa is no doubt ready to roll out the red carpet. According to Wawa spokeswoman Lori Bruce, the company is thrilled to be the Olympic champion’s favorite.
"On behalf of the entire Wawa team, we want to extend a huge congratulations to Laurie on this incredible achievement," Bruce said. "We’re so honored and humbled to be a part of this hometown hero's life."
