Quick Chek Debuts Rare Brew

Hard-to-find Huehuetenango joins retailer's gourmet coffee offering

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- Huehuetenango, a rare coffee from Guatemala famous for its crisp taste and fruity, floral finish, will be available at all Quick Chek stores until April 18, 2008, the convenience retailer said.

"Coffee connoisseurs know way too well that this top-end, premium coffee is extremely difficult to find—even in the trendiest and most popular coffee houses," said Mandy Steindl-Kwiecien, category manager for Quick Chek.

Huehuetenango is grown at more than 5,000 feet, in the northern part of Guatemala, one of the most remote growing regions in the country, [image-nocss] according to Wikipedia.

In addition, a portion of the fair trade-certified coffee profits will be donated to Coffee Kids, a Latin American organization that supports programs that improve the lives of coffee farmers and their families. With every cup of Huehuetenango coffee purchased, Quick Chek customers personally contribute to helping to keep land viable for generations to come, said the Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based company.

Huehuetenango coffee will be available to Quick Chek customers in both regular and decaffeinated. The world-class brew will join the chain's expansive collection of gourmet coffees, which are guaranteed fresh and brewed every 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, Matt Kulcsar from Hillsborough, N.J., celebrated his win in Quick Chek's Playoff Pep Rally Sub Eating Contest on Sunday at the chain's New Windsor, N.Y., location. Kulcsar received $500 after gobbling a Quick Chek 12-inch Italian sub in just six minutes, 44 seconds, sailing past 12 fellow competitors to victory.

Quick Chek's Playoff Pep Rally also featured an appearance by Chris Marino from WSPK-FM, Monster Energy Drink's Monster Zone, games and prize raffle drawings along with a spread of "football food" samples for Quick Chek customers.

Devoted to providing convenient shopping blended with an expansive range of fresh products and services, family-operated Quick Chek, is a market leader in foodservice with an exceptional fresh coffee and fresh food program. Operating more than 100 retail locations in New Jersey and southern New York, Quick Chek's retail locations include 12 pharmacy stores and 14 locations with fuel.
