The Return of the Roo Cup

Customers who reserve refillable cup online can access refills a week early

CARY, N.C. -- The Pantry Inc. has announced details for its second annual Roo Cup deal, a refillable cup for fountain and frozen beverages that it offered at its Kangaroo Express convenience stores throughout the summer last year.

Last summer, the 264,000 Roo Cups available sold in four weeks. While twice as many cups are available this summer, the online reservation system will ensure devoted Roo Cup fans don't miss out on the added value the Roo Cup unlocks this year.

"This is still the same Roo Cup that everyone knows and loves, but it's gotten a serious makeover," said John Fisher, senior vice president of marketing, merchandising and restaurant operations for Kangaroo Express. "We're offering new QR code and text messaging deals to make it easier than ever for Roo Cup fans to stay cool all summer without breaking the bank."

Each newly designed cup has a QR code that customers can scan every Monday to access videos, games and giveaways. Fans can also join the Roo Cup Club by texting "ROOCUP" to "THEROO" ("843766") to receive text messaging deals, such as free refill days. Additional in-store deals on candy, snacks and at participating restaurants inside Kangaroo Express stores are also available.

This year, Kangaroo Express is seeking passionate devotees to be a part of the Roo Cup Street Team. To learn how to sign up for the street team and receive free Roo Cup "swag" to share with their community, customers can visit www.kangarooexpress.com starting May 1. The Roo Cup Street Team members who generate the best energy and capture their town's excitement for the Roo Cup may have a chance to answer the question, "What would you do with 100 Roo Cups?"

For those who miss out on reserving a Roo Cup, they will be available to purchase in stores starting May 23, but supplies are limited.
