DALLAS -- Stripes Convenience Stores is celebrating Dia de los Muertos, a Mexican holiday known as the Day of the Dead that takes place between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, with the release of two new limited-edition commemorative cups.
Stripes partnered with Coca-Cola to create the exclusive Dia de los Muertos Commemorative Cups, which are available at Stripes stores throughout Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Priced at $2.99, the cups include the first fill free.
Each cup was created by two Texas artists, who also designed last year’s cups: Elisa Kyle Gilp, a 30-year-old South Texas native who specializes in Dia de los Muertos art, and Christian Lain, a 25-year-old professional tattoo artist who lives in Corpus Christi. Gilp designed a bright green cup with the “Dia de los Muertos” couple and Lain designed a red tumbler with a traditional calavera design.
The artists were commissioned by Stripes Stores and Coca-Cola in 2015 to launch the initial project. Each artist was given the creative freedom to design their own interpretation of the companies’ commemorative Dia de Los Muertos cups, but was asked to include the Stripes Stores and Coca-Cola logos in their design.
