Tax Day Cheeseburgers

BP's ampm offering free samples, coupons today

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Today, April 15, ampm convenience stores are offering free samples of its cheeseburgers. Customers who stop into an ampm store today can get a free cheeseburger sample between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The sample is half the size of the regular cheeseburger.

The free cheeseburgers will be available at participating stores for a limited time while supplies last. Customers are limited to one sample each.

Customers will also receive a coupon for a free 20-oz. fountain drink when they purchase a "Feeding Frenzy" (a three-item combination of regular [image-nocss] hamburger, regular hot dog, regular cheeseburger, chicken sandwich, corn dog or jalapeno corn dog) for $2.79.

Andrew Baird, BP's vice president of marketing for ampm, said he hopes the refreshments will make April 15 a little more palatable for taxpayers. "People are more budget-conscious than ever, but belt-tightening is no fun," he said. "So, on the day when wallets might feel a little lighter, ampm is encouraging consumers to indulge themselves with 'too much good stuff'."

Radio advertising promoted the offer on April 13 and 14, as well as the morning of April 15.

The ampm brand was founded in 1978 in Southern California by ARCO, which was acquired by BP in 2000. ARCO-branded ampm stores are currently found in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Arizona; BP-branded ampm stores are located in Chicago, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Orlando, Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Atlanta. There are also more than 1,800 ampm stores in Brazil and Japan. The stores are operated by Long Beach, Calif.-based BP Products North America Inc. BP America Inc. is based in Warrenville, Ill.

BP markets more than 15 billion gallons of gasoline every year to U.S. consumers through 13,000 retail outlets. BP is the single, global brand formed by the combination of the former British Petroleum, Amoco, Atlantic Richfield (ARCO), ARAL and Burmah Castrol.
