UPDATE: Wawa Weathers Supplier Apple Recall

Says sliced apples, bagged grapes, carrots to return to all stores by Wednesday

WAWA, Pa. -- Wawa has announced that all packaged products including sliced apples and bagged grapes and carrots will be completely back in stock in all Wawa stores by August 15.

Wawa had removed all packaged products including sliced apples and bagged grapes and carrots as a precaution due to a voluntary recall by supplier Missa Bay LLC over possible contamination.

(See Related Content below for CSP Daily News for details on the initial recall.)

As a precaution, Wawa immediately removed all packaged products from sale that included sliced apples, as well as bagged grapes and carrots for the safety and wellbeing of customers.

Wawa is currently replenishing stock levels with new product not associated with the recall. Any product currently in Wawa stores including sliced or diced apples or bagged carrots and grapes is not affected by the recall.

Wawa announced on August 10 that it was immediately recalling Wawa-branded products

containing apple slices as well as Wawa snack bags for carrots and grapes.

Missa Bay is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ready Pac Foods Inc. Missa Bay informed Wawa that the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled products were distributed to Wawa stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland,

Delaware and Virginia for retail sale. The products were not distributed to Wawa stores in Florida. Wawa's recall was part of a larger, regional recall initiated by Missa Bay.

"We want to stress that the products have been recalled voluntarily as a precaution," the retailer said in a notice posted on its website. "There have been no reported illnesses to date in relation to this recall. The problem was discovered by routine microbiological testing conducted by Missa Bay. As a precaution, Wawa has removed products containing sliced apples as well as snack bags containing carrots and grapes from sale in our stores until further notice."

The products removed include these Wawa branded items with the following Use By dates:

  • Apple & Peanut Butter Dipper 6.5 oz., July 8, 2012 through August 20, 2012.

"We apologize for any inconvenience and should have the product restocked and available by early next week. As always, Wawa's primary concern is for the health and safety of our customers and associates."
