Wawa Issues Salad Recall

Product contains undeclared wheat, sesame-seed allergens

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Wawa Inc. has recalled Thai Style Chicken Mango Salad sold only in 87 Wawa convenience stores in Florida. The recall is a result of action by Taylor Farms Florida Inc., Orlando, which is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity because it has the potential of containing undeclared wheat and sesame-seed allergens.

The manufacturer initiated the recall after it discovered that the ingredient label on the bottom of the packaging did not indicate the presence of wheat or sesame seeds.

People who have sensitivity or an allergy to wheat or sesame seeds may run the risk of a serious adverse reaction if they consume these products, but this ingredient does not pose any risk to members of the general population that does not have a sensitivity or allergy.

The recalled products include 220 units of the Wawa Thai Style Chicken Mango Salad, which have a code date of “sell by 5/28/16 T.F. 5:00am 1 TFFLD 144” found on the top of the container.

The Thai Style Chicken Mango Salad is packaged in an 11-ounce plastic container. The product may be mislabeled on the underside of the package with incorrect ingredient, nutrition and allergen information.

There have been no reported adverse reactions to this product.

“Wawa’s primary concern is always for the health and safety of our customers and associates. In the public’s interest, we have removed this product from sale at all impacted stores and initiated this recall,” the retailer said. “Wawa is dedicated to food quality, and the health and safety of its consumers. For these reasons, the company initiated this recall. We apologize to our customers and sincerely regret any inconvenience created by this voluntary product recall.”

It urges customers who have purchased the recalled product to dispose of it immediately and contact Wawa for a refund, or to contact Taylor Farms Florida.
