New Zieglerville store last stop on chain-wide adventure
ZIEGLERVILLE, Pa. -- After a two-and-a-half year odyssey, the "Wawa 2010 Girls" completed their quest to shop at every single Wawa store when they made the first purchase at the grand opening of the Wawa store in Zieglerville, Pa., last Friday, reported The Mercury.

In addition to matching the $2,500 the women spent, Wawa will make a $10,000 contribution to the Melanoma International Foundation, and additionally donate money for every hoagie the girls built at the Zieglerville grand opening, said the report.

The 2010 Girls have been on a mission to stop [image-nocss] at every single Wawa store in the company's five-state operating area in an effort to raise funds for the Melanoma International Foundation in honor of their classmate who died from the disease. The five West Chester women (Emily Koch, Mary Speer, Andrea Sasin, Ann Wuetig and Jill Fitzpatrick) began their journey in 2007 and set a goal to shop at all of Wawa's 570 stores before 2010.

They documented their mission at wawa2010blogspot.com.

"We are extremely impressed by the passion the girls have to have a positive impact on the community and raise awareness," Howard Stoeckel, Wawa's president and CEO, told the newspaper. "In addition, we are flattered that they chose Wawa as they recognize we are a good neighbor committed to helping our customers and community members. We are honored to help in the fight for the MIF to find a cure."

The Zieglerville location features Wawa's new store design prototype, including 4,600 square feet of retail space and additional gasoline facility, as well as new in-store graphics, colors, restroom design, and merchandising features, the report said. Rosario LaSpina is the general manager of the store, and has been with the company for three years.

There are 30 associates including management all are new jobs brought to the area by the development of the store.

In other company news, in time for Thanksgiving, NBC Philadelphia reported that Wawa's Hot Turkey Bowl and Gobbler have returned to the stores.

The bowl is turkey drenched in gravy draped over mashed potatoes and stuffing with a serving of cranberry sauce on top is available now! The six-inch Shorti Gobbler hoagie features hot turkey and cranberry covering stuffing.

Hot Turkey sightings began cropping up in South Jersey right after Halloween and by the first weekend of November reports were coming in from all over what fans call the "Wawa Nation" that the offering was again available. By Monday, it was on the menu at all Wawa stores, said the company.

The retailer did not expect the level of energy and fanaticism surrounding the Turkey Bowl when it first promoted the seasonal-offering three years ago, it said. "We underanticipated how many people would want it," Wawa spokesperson Lori Bruce told the news outlet.

That enthusiasm caused the Turkey Bowl to become one of Wawa's biggest sellers, sahe said.

Starting November 16, the Turkey Bowl or Gobbler will cost $2.99 for a limited time, according to Wawa.

Wawa, Pa.-based Wawa, Inc., a privately held company, operates more than 560 convenience stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
