Circle K to Carry AeroShot Energy

Will be available in chain's 3,100 stores when launched on October 1

LAVAL, Quebec -- Starting in October, 3,100 Circle K convenience stores will carry AeroDesigns Inc.'s AeroShot Energy, a new air-based energy product, according to an announcement by Cambridge, Mass.-based AeroDesigns.

Invented by Harvard professor, David Edwards, AeroShot Energy is an air-based boost of energy delivering 100mg of caffeine plus B vitamins that starts working right away. Recently, AeroShot Energy was selected as the Efficient Collaborative Retail Marketing (ECRM) "Best New Product," announced during the organization's Diet, Vitamin & Sports Nutrition EPPS in July.

Following the announcement of the New York attorney general's investigation into energy drinks, AeroDesigns is launching a national marketing program highlighting AeroShot Energy as a "healthy" alternative to energy drinks and shots, the company said.

"AeroShot Energy offers a quick and convenient way to get your energy with no liquids, no calories and no mystery ingredients," said Tom Hadfield, CEO of AeroDesigns.

"At Circle K, we were instantly drawn to the true innovation that AeroShot Energy brings to the category. This delivery system is uniquely designed to meet the needs and expectations of Circle K's 24/7, always-connected, on-demand energy customers," said Trey Powell, director of national accounts and procurement at Circle K.

In addition to AeroDesigns' first national partnership with Circle K, it has also expanded distribution in convenience and drugstores in the New England, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, South and Midwest regions, said the company. AeroShot Energy will be available in more than 15,000 locations across the United States in fourth-quarter 2012, it said.

AeroDesigns said that it is pioneering air-based delivery systems to "reimagine the consumption of food, nutrients and medications." Founded in 2010, AeroDesigns was inspired by ArtScience Labs, a nonprofit network of three creative cultural labs founded and managed by Edwards in the United States and France.

Laval, Quebec-based Alimentation Couche-Tard inc. has a network of more than 6,100 c-stores throughout North America, including more than 4,500 stores with fuel dispensing. It also has agreements for the supply of motor fuel to approximately 350 sites operated by independent operators. Its North-American network consists of 13 business units, including nine in the United States covering 40 states and the District of Columbia (under the Circle K banner) and four in Canada covering all 10 provinces (under the Couche-Tard and Mac's banner). Through its acquisition of Statoil Fuel & Retail, Couche-Tard also operates a broad retail network across Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark), Poland, the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and Russia.
