Sheetz Hiring for N.C. Distribution Center
Second facility will support c-store expansion in Tar Heel State
BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Sheetz Inc. is holding a job fair today for its new distribution center in Burlington, N.C. The convenience store retailer broke ground for its second facility in July 2013, and it is slated to open in fall 2014.
The Altoona, Pa.-based company said the distribution center would support as many 80 c-stores planned for North Carolina.
When completed, the structure will house 250,000 square feet of space and create an estimated 254 jobs by the end of 2018. The project has a price tag of $32.8 million, according to The Times-News.
Sheetz is currently looking to fill about 100 positions, the report said. The job fair will focus on team member and team leader positions within the distribution center and the Sheetz Bros. Kitchen that range from shipping, receiving, order fulfillment, chefs and bakers. It will also focus on commercial driver's license and non-CDL drivers. The distribution center jobs are primarily first shift, while the drivers would be delivering over nights.
The 44-acre site will include a Sheetz Bros. Kitchen bakery, distribution and warehousing center for the Sheetz distribution fleet; it also will provide space for various other corporate support departments serving the locations throughout our southern region.
Sheetz operates approximately 450 convenience store locations, nearly 60 of which are in North Carolina. The company has plans to open at least a dozen more in the state over the next few years, making a southern point of distribution a necessity, it said when it announced the facility. It also operates c-stores in Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
The family-owned and -operated chain had more than $6 billion in revenue for 2012 and more than 15,000 employees. Sheetz provides a menu of Made-to-Order (MTO) subs, sandwiches and salads, which are ordered through unique touch-screen terminals. All Sheetz convenience stores are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
