7-Eleven Accepting Child-Support Payments

C-store chain partnering with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, PayNearMe

LANSING, Mich. -- The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and its Michigan State Disbursement Unit have launched a partnership with electronic-payment provider PayNearMe that allows parents to make their child-support payments with cash at more than 550 Michigan and 17,000 nationwide participating 7-Eleven and Family Dollar stores.

Many customers pay by cash or money orders. Also, many customers have transportation or other challenges, making it difficult for them to visit the local Friend of the Court office. With this new service, such customers will now have a more convenient way to pay their child support with cash at a participating retail location near them or anywhere in the nation.

Parents can visit the www.misdu.com website and select the “cash payment” option; enter requested account information on the PayNearMe website; select whether they want the payment code sent to their phone or printed out; choose from the list of payment locations closest to them; and visit the convenience store or dollar store and provide both the payment code and cash to the cashier.

Customers pay a $1.99 convenience fee, and PayNearMe payments can take up to three business days to post.

“Michigan is committed to offering child-support customers a variety of convenient options to make their payments. We are continually adding innovative services that respond to customer preferences and needs,” said Erin Frisch, director of the Office of Child Support within MDHHS. “If we make this process more convenient, children will receive the support that they need and deserve more quickly.”

Previously, 7-Eleven has partnered with the federal government and PayNearMe on income taxes and health insurance payments, with William Hill and PayNearMe on sports betting, with PayNearMe on bill payment services and recently with Comcast and PayNearMe on cable bill payment.

PayNearMe, Sunnyvale, Calif., is a technology company that offers consumers an electronic way to pay with cash using their mobile device. The PayNearMe Bill Pay app enables consumers to pay for cable and phone bills, insurance, utilities, rent, loans and more with cash. Consumers can pay bills at nearly 17,000 retail locations in PayNearMe's nationwide network, which includes 7-Eleven and Family Dollar stores.

Based in Irving, Texas, 7‑Eleven Inc. operates, franchises and licenses approximately 59,800 7‑Eleven convenience stores in 17 countries, including 10,700 in North America.
