CHICAGO -- In the most recent awards from ASBPE, CSP landed in the top 10 and the new look of Convenience Store Products garnered the gold.
Here's a look at the honors ...
In the annual “Azbee” awards from the American Society of Business Press Editors (ASBPE), CSP was one of 10 finalists for 2016 magazine of the year, the highest honor given by the organization. This marks the first time CSP has been a finalist for the award.
While the top prize ultimately went to QSR magazine, being one of the 10 finalists was an acknowledgement of everything CSP’s editors strive for, said Abbie Westra, director of Winsight’s retail content group.
“I’m proud and honored to work with such a wonderful group of editors,” Westra said. “This recognition shows that our hard work and dedication to our readers is paying off.”
Convenience Store Products’ 2016 redesign was recognized with gold awards at the national and regional level. It also took the national and regional silver awards for contents page design. And it was honored with a bronze award at the regional level for opening spread design.
Last year, the cover image of Convenience Store Products’ March/April 2015 issue was honored with a bronze regional award in the category of front cover illustration.
CSP’s 2016 Category Management Handbook, produced by Senior Editor/Special Projects Coordinator Samantha Oller, Lead Designer Nico Heins, Group Director of Editorial Production Jennifer Bulat and Associate Editor Kristina Peters, took a regional silver award in the category of special supplement. This in-depth special issue of CSP has been recognized numerous times over the past 13 years for excellence as a special supplement and for information graphics.
CSP also was honored with regional silver award for overall information graphics.
In the category of feature article, CSP’s June 2016 cover story, “Boom Goes Bust,” written by Oller, won the silver in regional awards. CSP’s November 2016 cover story, “Nothing Personal,” written by Senior Editor Angel Abcede and Vice President/Retail Executive Platform Director Mitch Morrison, took the regional bronze in impact/investigative feature.
Winsight sister magazines FoodService Director and Restaurant Business also won Azbees. FoodService Director was a top 10 finalist for best cross-platform package of the year, and Restaurant Business’ website got an honorable mention for website of the year, among other awards.
National and regional awards ceremonies for the Azbees, presented by ASBPE, happened May 18 in St. Petersburg, Fla., and May 4 in Chicago, respectively.
Last year, CSP and Convenience Store Products took home eight awards in both regional and national categories.
