A Big Mahalo'

Aloha Petroleum collects more than $7,000 for Ronald McDonald House

HONOLULU -- Aloha Petroleum Ltd. recently donated more than $7,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii to support the organization's efforts to provide a "home-away-from-home" for seriously ill children and their families.

The funds were raised through specially marked Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii collection canisters displayed at 30 Aloha Island Mart convenience stores on Oahu and the Big Island from February through May. With the help of generous contributions from its customers, Aloha Petroleum raised $7,257.03 for "the house that love built."[image-nocss]

"There's no question that our customers and employees understand and appreciate the important role that Ronald McDonald House Charities plays in the lives of families and children. Their generous support speaks volumes," said Richard Parry, Aloha Petroleum president and CEO. "We're proud to help Ronald McDonald House continue providing shelter, comfort and care to families who must travel to Oahu for their children's medical treatment."

On Friday, Aloha Petroleum presented a check for $7,257.03 to Jerri Chong, RMHC Hawaii president/executive director, at the Ronald McDonald House on Judd Hillside.

"These contributions could not have come at a better time, as we continue to see a growing need for our services," said Chong. "We'd like to offer a big mahalo to Aloha Petroleum and its customers for their support."

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii, a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, offers support for families with seriously ill children by operating two Ronald McDonald Houses in Manoa Valley. Families from the neighbor islands and the Pacific region may stay there when they come to Honolulu seeking medical care for their children.

RMHC Hawaii also provides the Ronald McDonald House Family Room, a respite and support center inside Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. This important partnership with KMCWC has resulted in respite and support for more than 60,000 people. At the Family Room, most of those assisted are families from Oahu.

RMHC Hawaii programs strengthen and support families during a very difficult time. For a child, having family members nearby to give love and comfort may be as crucial as medical care itself.
