Cal State Chooses Shop24

Automated c-store opens on California campus

FULLERTON, Calif. -- Shop24, an automated convenience store concept company, has installed a Shop24 on the campus of Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif. The unit was installed and opened for business in mid-October.

The Shop24 has the ability to accept cash as well as debit and credit cards. A variety of convenience products from fresh foods to packaged goods will enable the Shop24 to meet the needs of the diverse student body for food, beverages, snacks, health and beauty aids, as well as large packaged goods.

The more-than-eight-foot-tall machine can hold up [image-nocss] to 175 products ranging from one ounce to eight pounds.

"It's going to give [students] a wider variety of products in different package sizes, which gives them a better value," Charles Treister, Shop24 chief operating officer, told The Daily titan. "For students who live in the dorms, it will give them access to products so they don't have to leave campus."

Shop24 at CSUF will be operated by Titan Shops, which will be responsible for selecting items and the different price points.

The machine also features an integrated video security system so that it can be monitored remotely to ensure safety for customers, said the report.

Originally operated in Europe and in the east coast of the United States, Shop24 dispenses a variety of items such as snacks, cleaning supplies, medicine and even full meals. There are also multi-pack drinks and two-liter bottles of soda all kept at 36 degrees. Shop24 accepts different methods of payment including cash, credit card, debit card and CSUF's TitanCard and operates 24 hours a day.

The State University of New York (SUNY) at Morrisville has had the Shop24 machines installed on its campus.

The State University of New York at Cortland has joined the Shop24 network of campuses. Installation is scheduled for early November 2010.

Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Shop24 automated c-stores have been delivered to 15 countries including the United States. It has recorded more than 150 million consumer transactions in more than 250 locations around the globe, it said.
