New Mark VII president expands on acquisition by WashTec

LAS VEGAS -- Five weeks into the acquisition of touchless provider Mark VII by the German car wash maker WashTech AG, Mark VII's new president, Christian Bernert, elaborated on plans for the newly unified company.

Bernert told CSP Daily News at the 2006 Car Care World Expo that by next month, the newly combined companies will have geared up Mark VII Equipment Inc.'s Arvada, Colo., manufacturing plant to make WashTech friction-style washes.

Having closed the acquisition in February, Bernert described how Mark VII's strength as [image-nocss] a major distributor-manufacturer for touchless rollovers in North America complemented the Augsburg, Germany-based WashTec's position as a global supplier of friction-style washes. It was a great fit, he said.

The intent is for WashTec to break into the U.S. friction market using the Mark VII brand. Bernert said that manufacturing the friction products domestically will help in that expansion. The company will also explore increasing the global presence of Mark VII's touchless systems.

Mark VII had been a distributor for WashTec products since 2002, Bernert said. Through that tie, WashTec officials were able to experience Mark VII's management team and the company's internal processes. That comfort level facilitated the decision to move forward with a more formal relationship. It's not just an alliance, Bernert said. This is a marriage.
