Cardtronics Expands Fees-Free ATM Access at Valero Corner Stores

Relationship with BBVA Compass adds 178 units

HOUSTON -- Customers of select Valero Corner Store convenience stores and Safeway supermarket locations in Cardtronics Inc.'s portfolio of BBVA Compass retail ATMs now have fee-free cash access at 178 Cardtronics-owned and -operated ATMs in Colorado.

Cardtronics has announced—as part of a newly formed ATM branding relationship—the deal with Sunbelt region financial institution BBVA Compass. With $63.1 billion in assets, Birmingham, Ala.-based BBVA Compass ranks among the top 25 largest U.S. commercial banks based on deposit market share.

In Colorado, BBVA Compass deepens its fee-free ATM footprint primarily in Denver and Colorado Springs, choosing the Valero Corner Store and Safeway sites. Additionally, every Costco in Colorado (12 total locations) now has a Cardtronics-owned, BBVA Compass-branded ATM.

"Branding Cardtronics' ATMs at Valero Corner Stores, Safeway and Costco stores makes BBVA Compass stronger and more accessible in Colorado," said Andy Hernandez, executive vice president, ATM & Online Channel at BBVA Compass. "These additional ATMs give our customers convenient and fee-free access to cash in a retail environment, where they're most likely to need it."

BBVA Compass has an ATM network of more than 1,200 machines across seven Sunbelt states.

"Branding Cardtronics ATMs--hosted by well-known and conveniently located retailers--delivers to BBVA Compass, and its customers, benefits of both a financial and lifestyle nature," said Rick Updyke, president of the U.S. Business Group at Cardtronics. "Saving BBVA Compass customers the ATM fee, while providing surcharge-free cost certainty for the bank, defines the financial benefit. As for lifestyle enhancement, ATM branding is about getting BBVA Compass closer to its customers and meeting them on their terms, in the retail world when a need for cash arises."

Making ATM cash access convenient where people shop, work and live, Houston-based Cardtronics is at the convergence of retailers, financial institutions, prepaid card programs and the customers they share. Cardtronics owns and operates more than 61,700 retail ATMs in U.S. and international locales.
