Careers After Katrina Campaign Growing

More than 5,000 job openings to be filled

LARGO, Fla. -- National Executive Personnel (NEP) is in the process of matching more than 50 displaced convenience store workers to more than 5,000 immediate job openings in all levels of the c-store industry across the nation through its Careers After Katrina campaign.

The 50 job candidates are the beginning of how this campaign is going to help displaced workers, said Dick Wood, president of Largo, Fla.-based NEP. The company anticipates many more displaced workers to use Careers After Katrina as they begin to make decisions on their new permanent [image-nocss] residences, according to Wood. Only one in five of the more than 1.6 million Americans affected by Hurricane Katrina have filed a permanent change-of-address form with the U.S. Postal Service in the two months since Hurricane Katrina.

Displaced workers are just now evaluating their housing situation and beginning to rebuild their lives. Once they decide where they are going to live, they will be looking to re-enter the workforce, and we think they will use Careers After Katrina as a resource, Wood said.

The central clearinghouse for informationwww.CareersAfterKatrina.comhas had nearly 4,000 visitors since its inception, an average of nearly 100 visitors per day. This is a long-term project that is growing, and we're committed to this project for as long as necessary to help these victims, said Wood. Displaced workers are just now realizing that their homes in the Gulf Coast region are too damaged to be habitable, and they are beginning to identify long-term opportunities for their families in other parts of the country.

NEP has been reaching out to displaced workers, including contacting the Red Cross, independent shelters, job boards, emergency management agencies, churches and other such resources across the nation, in an effort to reach as many displaced workers as possible. Displaced workers are contacting NEP, which is matching the displaced workers with opportunities that best meet the job seeker's qualifications and location needs. The Careers After Katrina campaign is a no-fee service for both the job candidate and the company with the job opening.

Displaced workers and the industry can gather up-to-date information on the campaign at www.CareersAfterKatrina.com, and NEP can be contacted toll-free at 1-800-314-8365. Careers After Katrina is currently helping displaced workers find employment in temporary, part-time and permanent positions throughout the United States. There are openings in all levels of the c-store industry, from the hourly employees inside the storefront to the operational managers running the corporation. Careers After Katrina is working in coordination with CSP Information Group and the National Association of Convenience Stores.

Since 1981, NEP has provided executive recruiting and placement services throughout North America and Europe while focusing in the convenience store and petroleum industries.
