Corner Stores Raise $2.1 Million in Muscular Dystrophy Campaign

Total fundraising surpasses $20 million dollars in 25-year partnership

SAN ANTONIO -- Valero Corner Stores raised an amazing $2.1 million in its 2012 Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) fundraising campaign, company officials announced. The amount represents a daily average of more than $75,000 during the campaign.

This is the second time in the history of Corner Store MDA campaigns that Valero has achieved more than $2 million in donations.

Corner Stores raise the funds each year through the sales of "Shamrocks" to customers. This year continued the strong tradition of raising funds to support important research and bring comfort to those affected by neuromuscular diseases.

This year's campaign brought incredible results in a short 28-day campaign.

"It is the individual action of selling a single Shamrock which demonstrates the passion of our employees and the generosity of our customers. These efforts combine to raise millions of dollars for such a worthy cause," said Gary Arthur, president of Valero Retail. "The relationship our employees have with our customers creates the partnership to continue supporting the MDA mission to make a difference in the lives of people afflicted by this terrible disease."

San Antonio-based Valero Energy, through its subsidiaries, is an international manufacturer and marketer of transportation fuels, other petrochemical products and power. Valero's assets include 16 petroleum refineries, 10 ethanol plants and a wind farm. Approximately 6,800 retail and branded wholesale outlets carry the Valero, Diamond Shamrock, Shamrock and Beacon brands in the United States and the Caribbean; Ultramar in Canada; and Texaco in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
