Cumberland Farms Using Coffee to Combat Cancer

Retailer giving 5 cents for every cup sold in July to Children's Hospital Boston

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Cumberland Farms President Ari Haseotes yesterday announced the New England Convenience Store Chain's plans to help fight childhood cancer during an event at Children's Hospital Boston. In the month of July, the company will donate five cents per cup of coffee--including its signature Farmhouse Blend--sold in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire to Children's Hospital Boston to fund pediatric cancer research.

Haseotes, whose son is a cancer survivor, said, "This campaign gives customers the opportunity to support a great cause while enjoying [image-nocss] a delicious, affordable cup of coffee."

The physician spearheading the funded research is Scott Armstrong, M.D., Ph.D. in Children's Hospital Hematology/Oncology and Medicine departments. "Children's Hospital Boston has taken the lead in radically improving survival rates for pediatric cancer through cutting-edge research and exceptional inpatient care," said Dr. Armstrong. "Cumberland Farms' gift will help us continue research to develop life-saving cancer treatments."

The Framingham, Mass.-based retailer announced the program yesterday at the pediatric oncology floor activity room at the Children's Hospital. Haseotes (pictured, with Armstrong and patient) participated in an art activity with several children and their families. The patients participated in thanking the chain with a personally decorated sign.
