CVS Offering Free Gas This Summer

Cardholders spend $30 on select items to earn free $10 fuel card though August

WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- CVS/pharmacy recently announced a new program designed to allow customers to earn free gasoline this summer by shopping at more than 7,200 locations nationwide. Through August 28, 2011, members of CVS/pharmacy's ExtraCare Rewards program can earn one $10 gift card for ExxonMobil, Shell, BP or Arco every week simply by spending $30 on specially marked items found in the weekly CVS/pharmacy circular.

"At CVS/pharmacy, we are committed to finding ways to provide our customers with exceptional value and convenience. We designed this program in an effort to [image-nocss] offer our ExtraCare cardholders with an easy way to earn free gas while simply shopping for essentials each week when they visit CVS/pharmacy," said Judy Sansone, vice president of merchandising for CVS/pharmacy. "Our new gas card offer helps to simplify the lives of our customers by providing them with an additional way to earn money back when they shop using ExtraCare at CVS/pharmacy."

All qualifying products are tagged with a "get free gas" icon to make them easily identifiable. Eligible products rotate each week, giving shoppers greater flexibility to fill their carts with the essentials they shop for each week.

Once ExtraCare customers reach the $30 required purchase threshold, a special coupon will print on their receipt that can be redeemed immediately in store for a $10 gasoline card. If customers prefer to wait to redeem their coupon they have up to 30 days to do so, limit one redemption per week for each ExtraCare cardholder.

CVS/pharmacy customers save money through the ExtraCare Rewards program all year long. ExtraCare has more than 67 million active cardholders. Registering is free in-store or online, and cardholders receive 2% back on nearly every $1 spent in the store, every time they shop. At the end of each quarter, these earnings are paid out in the form of ExtraBucks rewards printed on the bottom of cardholders' receipts, which can then be used just like cash to buy nearly anything in the store. Additionally, in participating states, for every two prescriptions filled at CVS/pharmacy, cardholders automatically receive $1 in ExtraBuck rewards.

Cardholders can also register their ExtraCare accounts on CVS.com to print out ExtraBucks at home before shopping. Red kiosks called ExtraCare Coupon Centers can also be found in nearly every store, so cardholders can scan their cards at the beginning of each shopping trip to receive personalized coupons and any available ExtraBucks rewards, which they can then use during that same visit.

Beyond quarterly rewards, CVS/pharmacy offers special discounts listed in the weekly sales circular exclusively for ExtraCare members.

CVS/pharmacy, the retail division of Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS Caremark Corp., operates more than 7,200 CVS/pharmacy and Longs Drug stores.
