The E-Z Mart Scholarship is being made possible from funds contributed by E-Z Mart. Each year, up to $10,000 will be dedicated to the E-Z Mart Scholarship Program. This commitment has allowed E-Z Mart to award nine individuals [image-nocss] with $1,000 in 2009 to help realize their full potential by aiding with the expenses of obtaining a higher education.
Under the direction of Jim Yates, E-Z Mart has grown to become one of the largest privately held convenience store chains in the United States. Current operations include 300 locations in five southern states providing employment to 2,100 individuals.
From young adulthood to his untimely death in 1998, Jim Yates was successful because he was a visionary and a self-made entrepreneur. Not only did he dedicate his life to operating a convenience store chain, he was directly involved in many political and business organizations by providing his input and leadership abilities. He helped multiple charitable organizations raise money and create innovative fund raising ideas that are still being used today. While doing all of this, he still took the time to be involved with his family and raise his children in a loving environment. The expectations he set for himself were high and failure was never an option.
Due to these admirable qualities, his legacy continues today in those that have learned directly from him and those that he can now help indirectly through this scholarship. Funding for this scholarship is available through the company as a result of his and many other dedicated employees' efforts to E-Z Mart's success.
