CHICAGO -- Earlier this year, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and 7-Eleven Inc. announced the Education is Freedom Mayor Richard M. Daley Scholarship Program.Through this initiative, 7-Eleven pledged 100 college scholarships to graduating seniors in the city of Chicago, to be awarded over the next four years through the Education is Freedom Foundation (EIF).
Each scholarship, worth $2,000 a year, is renewable up to three years for a potential investment of $800,000 in the youth of Chicago.
In 2005, 12 deserving graduates received [image-nocss] scholarships, and for 2006, 28 scholarships will be presented to Chicago-area seniors, the mayor's office said.
EIF scholarships are targeted to B-average high school seniorshardworking students who might not qualify for traditional merit-based awards, but who demonstrate leadership and have a strong desire to attend college.
Students must apply for this special program through the EIF national scholarship application process.The application period began Nov. 1, 2005, and extends through Jan. 15, 2006. Students can go to www.educationisfreedom.org for complete information and to apply.
