ExxonMobil Charity Update

Oil company contributes millions to United Way

HOUSTON -- ExxonMobil said recently that its total corporate, employee and retiree contributions to the United Way in the Houston and Baytown areas reached a record total of $16.6 million.

The announcement was made during a celebration at NCI Ripley House Community Center where checks for $10.6 million and $1.4 million were presented to the United Way of Greater Houston and United Way of Baytown, respectively. The funds will assist those benefiting from services provided by the nonprofit and its affiliated agencies.

The company [image-nocss] contributed an additional $4.6 million through ExxonMobil Volunteer Involvement Program grants earned by employee and retiree volunteers at various United Way affiliated agencies as well as through gifts-in-kind donations, corporate loaned executives and administrative personnel to assist with the heavy work load at already burdened social service agencies.

Earlier, Houston-based ExxonMobil said that the corporation, its employees and retirees raised more than $1.4 million for the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.

During the 2007 United Way annual campaign, ExxonMobil employees also devoted a day to volunteerism by participating in the United Way Day of Caring. On September 13, more than 150 employees and retirees assisted 11 local nonprofit agencies funded by the United Way. Volunteers worked on landscaping and minor construction projects, painted, read books to children and assisted with other needs of the nonprofit agencies. Each year, ExxonMobil has one of the largest single-corporation volunteer groups participating in Day of Caring.

ExxonMobil volunteers supported the following United Way agencies during Day of Caring: Camp Summit, Child Care Group, Collin County Children's Advocacy Center, Dallas Children's Advocacy Center, GRACE, Nexus Recovery Center, Reading & Radio Resource, Salvation Army, Senior Source, St. Philip's School & Community Center and United Cerebral Palsy.

In addition to assistance provided by ExxonMobil volunteers, agencies selected for the 2007 Day of Caring are eligible to receive grants through the ExxonMobil Volunteer Involvement Program. This ExxonMobil program encourages employees, retirees and other eligible participants to actively contribute their time and talent to nonprofit organizations by providing contributions on the participants' behalf.

ExxonMobil also hosted a golf tournament and silent auction to raise additional funds for the United Way during the 2007 annual campaign.

In 2006, ExxonMobil raised more than $1.3 million for the United Way in Metropolitan Dallas and Tarrant counties. Through the Volunteer Involvement Program, ExxonMobil employees and retirees volunteered nearly 24,000 hours in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, resulting in an additional $272,000 in grants awarded to local organizations.

The ExxonMobil Foundation, Exxon Mobil Corpo. and its divisions and affiliates last year provided $139 million in contributions worldwide, with $54 million dedicated to education.
