IRVING, Texas & DUXBURY, Mass.-- The ExxonMobil Foundation has donated $100,000 to the Red Crescent for flood relief and recovery efforts in Pakistan, where the United Nations reports monsoon flooding has killed up to 1,600 people and left millions homeless. Separately, VERC Enterprises has initiated a fundraising effort at each of its stores to assist those affected by the natural disaster.
"Our sincere thoughts are with the people of Pakistan where thousands have lost their lives and millions more have been impacted by this disaster," said ExxonMobil Foundation [image-nocss] president Suzanne McCarron. "It's our hope that our support for Red Crescent's efforts will help to address the needs of those affected by this tragedy."
The donation will be distributed to the Red Crescent through the American Red Cross. Irving, Texas-based Exxon Mobil Corp. does not operate in Pakistan.
Separately, VERC Enterprises , Duxbury, Mass., a leading independent, regional convenience store, gasoline station and car wash operation with 23 locations throughout eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, is raising funds in store.
Donation canisters are available on counters at all VERC locations for those customers who wish to donate to the cause. VERC Enterprises will match every dollar raised corporate-wide. Donations will be accepted through September 9.
"VERC Enterprises currently employs 28 managers/associates originally from Pakistan, and while VERC staff family members who presently live in Pakistan were not directly affected by the floods, we felt strongly about helping those who were," said Leo Vercollone, president of VERC.
