Drug store chain offers gas card, prizes for transferring prescription

CAMP HILL, Pa. -- Leveraging high gasoline prices as a trip-combining traffic driver, drug store chain Rite Aid is offering customers who transfer their prescriptions to Rite Aid with a qualifying coupon will receive a $30 gift card and have a chance to win a year's worth of free gasoline valued at $2,600. The retailer has announced its Fill Up & Fuel Up program running June 6, 2008, through Jan. 10, 2009. During the sweepstakes period, a total of 31 prize winners drawn from a chainwide weekly drawing each will receive a Gas Gift Card totaling $2,600, good at any gas station.[image-nocss]

Customers redeeming a Fill Up & Fuel Up coupon available in Rite Aid weekly circulars and other advertising and promotions materials will receive a $30 Rite Aid gift card for transferring a prescription. They continue to be eligible for weekly drawings for a year's worth of free gasoline through Jan. 10, 2009, as long as their transferred prescriptions stay with Rite Aid. Every prescription transferred with a coupon gives the customer another chance to win.

"With gas prices continuing to climb, pretty soon one of the only trips people will be making is to their local pharmacy for necessities like prescriptions because we are in such nearby convenient neighborhood locations," said John Learish, Rite Aid senior vice president of marketing. "We can't control the price of gas, but for 31 lucky winners this sure will make traveling a bit easier."

This sweepstakes is available in all states in which Rite Aid operates, except New York and New Jersey, because of state law. The offer is only valid on prescriptions not previously filled at or transferred from other Rite Aid locations.

Camp Hill, Pa.-based Rite Aid has more than 5,000 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia with fiscal 2008 annual sales of more than $24.3 billion.
