Florida Couple Takes 7-Eleven Franchisee Deal

Gets discount through veterans program

VOLUSIA, Fla. -- A U.S. Air Force veteran is the first Florida resident to accept a discount franchising deal from 7-Eleven Inc.

Volusia County, Florida, resident Randy Harrell and his wife, Kristi, are slated to take over as franchisee in early November at the 7-Eleven store on Dunlawton Avenue in Port Orange for an undisclosed price, according to a report in the Orlando Business Journal.

7-Eleven earlier this year launched a military-veterans franchise program that offers a 10% break on initial franchise fees to service veterans who become first-time franchisees. "That discount really helped us make the decision," Harrell said in a prepared statement. "It's a great opportunity."

Harrell, 61, spent most of his career as a distributor for Hawaiian Tropic, while his wife was a 7-Eleven store manager in the Daytona area for 28 years, the newspaper reported.

Dallas-based 7-Eleven, which operates, franchises or licenses more than 36,200 stores in 15 countries, reported 2008 sales of more than $53.7 billion.
