Giving 'Hope' for the Holidays

Kum & Go raises $17,600 for Victory Mission
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A nice big check for Springfield's Victory Mission means the organization will be able feed more needy families this holiday season. Kum and Go convenience store's annual Victory Mission Thanksgiving Turkeys Fundraiser brought in more than $17,000 this year, according to a KSPR-TV report.

Participating stores sold $1 cardboard turkeys to customers to raise money to provide holiday meals and stock up Victory Mission's food pantry.

"Receiving a $17,600 check all at once right now is this huge encouragement. It helps us maintain what we're doing, [image-nocss] catch up on some bills," said Jim Harriger of the Victory Mission. "Yes, it's been a tough year. We are behind on some bills, and [this] gives us real hope going into the end of the year."

Kum & Go store No. 475 raised the most money, more than $6,000, and had the honor of hosting the check presentation Tuesday.

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go has more than 430 c-stores in 11 states: Iowa, Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming, with more than 3,600 associates.
