Greyhound Introduces Its First Robotic C-Store

Shop24 unit in OK City Terminal in September

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Shop 24 Global LLC has announced that in early September, Greyhound is set to open its first Shop24 robotic convenience store, as well as the first in the state of Oklahoma, in the Oklahoma City Greyhound terminal.

Total Express 24-7 LLC of Edmond, Okla., will own an operate the Shop24 robotic c-store.

"We are extremely proud to be partnering with Greyhound, and to see the first of these amazing machines being put into place in Oklahoma City. Total Express 24-7 LLC has its main focus on convenience and meeting consumer's needs," said Ty T. Hartwig of Total Express 24-7 LLC.

"We saw an opportunity with Shop24 to bring this 'ultra-convenience' to individuals that do not have immediate access to a traditional convenience store. We are excited about the opening of our first location in early September, and have several more locations that will be opening around the metro in the coming months," he added.

Founded in 1914, Greyhound Lines Inc. is the largest provider of intercity bus transportation, serving more than 3,800 destinations across North America. It transports nearly 19 million passengers each year.

"Greyhound is an innovator in the transportation business, and we are excited to be the first in our industry to showcase a robotic convenience store in our terminal, with the hope that we will expand this offering to other locations," said Mark Frank, director of foodservice for Greyhound. "Having a wide variety of quality products available 24/7 at the touch of a button is groundbreaking, allowing Greyhound to efficiently deliver products to meet our customers' needs in a fast and timely manner."

Mike Weigel, chief marketing/sales officer of Westerville, Ohio-based Shop24, said, "We are very pleased to be working with such an iconic company as Greyhound Lines Inc. These stores will only enhance the already excellent service that Greyhound provides to its customers, especially in areas where there are no products offered within walking distance."

Originally operated in Europe, Shop24 dispenses a variety of items such as snacks, cleaning supplies, health and beauty products and even full meals closer to the customer in a fraction of the time it takes to shop at a traditional store, the company said. This automated store is self-contained, refrigerated and designed to enable 24/7 purchases. Shop24 stores can currently be found at many college campuses as well as apartment communities across the United States.
